Wearing Down

Last week in mexico I did...well...basically nothing. A little bit of walking, a couple hundred pushups and that was it.

Tuesday I played softball which is a very low impact sport. Thursday played tennis for about an hour and a half. It was funny to me because the guy I played kept talking about how, since I was bigger than him he should be able to wear me down by running me around.

Problem is...I am better than him, routinely run full out for 2 hours a night 4 nights a week, so an hour and a half, I feel like I am just getting warmed up.

Friday hit the weights for a half hour, then played racquetball for 2:15. The last 15 - 20 minutes I could feel fatigue starting ad was definitely a step slow, but was fine.

Today we started playing tennis at 3:30, right in the heat of the day. Some very intense games, lot of running back and forth, net, baseline...we were playing doubles and I got a lot of good run in.

But I also learned that spending a week killing ridiculous amounts of calories, then coming back and killing it for three days in a row and 4 out of 5 is a recipe for shutdown.

I actually thought I was starting to get heat stroke. Nick hit a soft shot right to me that typically i blast back so hard it bounces out of the tennis court. This time I watched it fly right by me.

After the game, the guys who have been playing racket sports with me the last few months both commented they have never seen me ready to stop playing so soon.

** Sigh **. It took me one week to undo a years worth of fitness gains. Better take a couple rest days i guess. Getting old is no fun
