Turnabout is fair play

Catholicism is a mish-mash of several religions cobbled together for a variety of reasons. One reason was to placate the locals whose religions were thrown out in favor of the "state religion" under Roman "Christian" Emperors (quite probably the loosest interpretation of who is "Christian" in history).

For example, to placate the Druids of England, they chose a date to commemorate the birth of Christ based on what; I give you 2 choices

1) the probable date as shown by Biblical events surrounding it

2) an English religious festival known as Yule that involved worshipping trees, burning logs, etc

Hint: The Biblical account reveals things such as shepherds watching their flocks in the fields at night, an event which most certainly does NOT occur in winter.

So now, English P.C.-ites are changing names from "Christmas Lights" to "Winter Light Festival".

Now, on the one hand I think it is pretty funny. I would love to make some jokes about, "No problem, as long as they promise to work Christmas Day lest those of us who wish to retain that name be offended that people who don't believe in it are getting the day off paid as if they did believe."

On the other hand, I could go off on how ridiculous the fear of offending people is. If I so chose, I could be offended by things every day. And that includes by things written/spoken by people I consider good friends. And by politicians. And by television. And radio.

But I am not. I realize very few people see things the way I see them. And I am okay with that. I will go on enjoying what I enjoy, ignoring what I don't, and not being offended because Joe Schmoe from Idaho wants to see naked women dance or Tom Tomas of Tomtown likes to drop the f-bomb or the Salvation Army wants to stand in all the doorways annoying me with their non-stop bells that I hate so much or...well, the list goes on.

Stop looking for ways to be offended. Deal with the fact there are certain differences. And stop accommodating so much people who "might" be offended; you know what? Sometimes in life there are going to be things happening/said/sung/projected that you disagree with it.

TOO BAD!!!!!!!!!!

I love how the Muslims got offended, too - even though they were supposedly the group the town was trying not to offend ;)

Why stop at Christmas? The Hannukkah menorah could be...hmm, the winter candleholder? The month of Ramadan could be the month of not eating during daytime hours, etc.
