At last, there is some good news. The Goose had gotten a letter from unemployment denying her benefits. Their reason was sort of odd to me...because she was in school! Since she was in school she could not devote sufficient time to finding a job went the reasoning.

I know nobody who doesn't think there are a lot of people out there who scam the unemployment system. I saw first hand how NOT TRUE that was of her. To maintain unemployment you have to apply for I believe it is 3 jobs per week. Within 8 hours of being laid off she had sent out her resume a dozen times and inside a week that number was in the range of 30. That hardly smacks of someone who will not devote their time and energy to finding a job. To then perhaps be denied unemployment benefits for having the temerity to attempt to further your education and get a better job made no sense to me.

I tried to reassure her that it would work out, that she was an excellent candidate for their "displaced worker" program or whatever that is called and that she just needed a bit of patience. And yesterday that advice came to fruition...

We got a letter from the unemployment peeps. She is approved for some program where she will receive benefits for up to a year while in school and...get this...she is not even required to apply for jobs! Of course, being her, she celebrated this by sending out a further three resumes, but the point is...she can relax a bit knowing she will be okay even if she DOESNT'T get a job while she works through school.
