What's your fantasy?

I have loved to read as long as I can remember. While I typically am a combat shopper...I have been known to do a week's grocery shopping in les than 10 minutes, more often than not in fact...and new clothes shopping, I once entered a store, selected and purchased 5 new shirts in less than 4 minutes... there is one time I am not. While I can be in and out of a mall with all Christmas shopping completed in less than an hour, a trip to the bookstore can easily last three or four hours. And it has always been that way.
I used to know nearly the complete contents of the library bookshelves. I could tell at a glance when new books arrived. And I went there frequently. When we went on vacation I was typically happiest when I would get 5 or 10 bucks to buy a used book or three...and I could really make that dollar stretch when it came to books. I was like a drill sergeant for those poor dollars..."All right, maggots. You are going to work like you have never worked before. I want to see you long, green and lean so when I flop you on the counter the clerk is really impressed." Okay, this is not going anywhere, back to the insanity.
You can imagine how excited I was when I saw a book that combined my love of books with my love of baseball. It was called "Rotisserie League Baseball" and I think it was like a buck. Although it was a couple years old, I snatched it up and over the years I read that thing about 30 times. The premise was you could get a few friends together, "buy" your own fantasy team and have a league where statistics determined your standings.
So Kyle, Billy, Woody, Bryce, myself, and from time to time a few others started doing these leagues. Baseball, basketball, football, we did them all. Now, of course, there are fancy electronic leagues, but back then it was all by hand. And we loved it.
Now I pretty much just fill out an NCAA bracket, watch my teams go out in the first couple rounds, and call it good. (Not strictly true...last year I came in 2nd in a tourney with over 30 people in it) This year Kyle set up a baseball league and I joined it. And almost instantly I realized...I really am out of step with baseball any more. I don't recognize player names, have no clue what team they are on...oh, how things have changed.
Thankfully, this is one of those fun leagues where the only thing at stake is pride. I have seen leagues where people play for coin...huge amounts of coin. And it makes me wonder what will be the next big thing. People like to gamble on sports...golf, the NCAAs, the Superbowl, Neck-car racing, and so forth. When will bear-baiting make a return?
Well, really, though, the point of all this is simple; we need more players. So if you have the inclination, let me know and I will send you the league information. So far there are but 4 of us, so if you have any skills at all I can virtually guarantee you a top 5 finish. And as the college student said when sniffing the milk from the fridge, "That ain't bad."
