A different way to look at it. Using selected quotes to present one motive, one result.
Just an interesting sidenote, my own "spin", if you will: Certainly I do not wish to demean the death of even one person...but I also have gotten extremely tired of hearing about the "high cost" in human lives in that war. By what standard? As far as war goes, U.S. casualties are lighter than any war but...I don't know, Grenada? Iraqui casualties, both legit and civilian, have also been, for a war, remarkably low. Is every loss of decent people tragic? Yes, but presenting terms like "deadliest" carries connotations that frankly are illegitimate.

Don't you think even one casualty is too many?
Honestly, I don't. To paraphrase a popular maxim, to make an omelette... You notice that nobody is claiming it was the wrong thing to do to take out Saddam? It's just that "we're losing this war" and "The cost is too high." Well would you care to explain to me what other options there were for removing Saddam? And after you remove him, then what? Do you just let the next-most-vicious guy with an army backing him take over? That seems somewhat counter productive. So then what is the answer? Well, it would seem that you must go in, take out Saddam, ensure that a stable government with sane leadership is put into power, make sure it can sustain itself with minimal outside involvement then leave.
