Something confuses me. WE allegedly are a country that stands against torture. Most, if not all of us, with any sense of propriety at all are shocked and outraged that a country built on a mythology of equality of all men, of standing against the cruelty and outrages of the Inquisition and the religious wars of Europe the the Middle East, a country where no "cruel and unusual" punishment can be even hinted at without cries of anger, distress and disgust...
If we are so against torture, why do so many of us jog?
