What's in a (street) name?

Ah, the times, they are a changing. Remember when you used to go to East Sussex for a nice, quiet walk down oh so romantic Hoare Road? However, should you offer a lady on Hoare Road an untoward suggestion, such as that she might be a whore on Hoare, you might repair to nearby Cracknuts Lane lest you receive some.

Now, those possibilities no longer exist. The East Sussex council, fully aware that people might not realize Gaswork Road might refer to a company that once provided power rather than an offer to relieve your built-up constipation, is working hard to prevent misunderstandings.

Gone are hoary old names like Typple Avenue. You can soon walk the streets of East Sussex without fear of being offended by potentially offensive street names.

Thank you, political correctness gone overboard for giving me this fine opportunity to mock you. I am just sorry I could not add much humor to something already so ridiculous and hilarious.

I'd love to live on one of these streets!

Juggs Road and Cockshut Road

So what's next? Are they going to change the name of spotted dick? Bangers and mash? Inquiring minds want to know...

This stuff would be hillarious if it weren't so frightening. People are so concerned with being inoffensive to a vocal minority that the stupid-silent majority get screwed over.

I can just see in the not-too-distant future someone calling for the Cardinals to change their name so as not to offend people who think it is a reference to Catholicism.
