Too often for my own good I will grab something like a Red Baron mini-pizza for lunch. Yes, I know...the irony of a German legendary for the number of French and British fliers he killed representing a pseudo-Italian food in America and looking jovial about it...he now gets to use his allies to kill his late-war enemies....is not lost on me. I get the joke. Smurf, for all I know, I made up the joke. You might never look at Red Baron pizza the same way again.
Be that as it may, upon realizing that as often as not I would consume them both, it came to my attention that I was knocking off about 600 calories per lunch. Now, on the bright side, I got some bread, cheese, vegetable, and meat into me as those are the ingredients...more or less...of pizza, but still...600 calories? That sounds excessive!
So, being short of time, I elected to have lean pockets instead. So today I brought in Meatballs & Mozzarella lean pockets.
And as I was cooking them ("cooking" being French for throwing in the microwave for 3 irreplaceable minutes of my life) I idly read the "nutrition" information. YES! I scaled back from two pizzas at 300 calories per all the way to 2 hot pockets at only 280 calories each.
Uh...yeah.
I lopped a whopping 40 calories off. FORTY! I expend more calories than that just complaining about how many calories I just consumed. What a waste!
I am not going to argue the Lean Pockets are tastier or more filling than the Red Baron or even that I prefer one corporation over the other. Nope. The pizzas taste better and fill better.
But at least with the lean pockets I was able to get some bread, vegetable, cheese and meat into me....

Lean pockets?
I'd start worrying more about chemical content than calories...
