A crime was committed in December of 1998. A Mercedes passed a 40KMH zone at 60KMH. When he got the letter Derrick Thomas claimed he was innocent...largely because he had never driven, much less owned, a Mercedes. Seems like a pretty good defense to me. Of course, the defense offered by the Royal Mail for the letter, postmarked in December of 1998, just arriving was even better. They say it is "unlikely" they are responsible for the late delivery....
Uhm...okay. Perhaps the letter-filching gnomes were operating in December, 7 years ago, and now their conscience has got the best of them so they snuck it back into the mail carriers bag. Or maybe the fault lies with Thomas...perhaps he has a standard waiting period before he opens mail. The letter no doubt has been sitting on his counter for 7 years waiting for him to open it. But I am going with the Royal Mail, if they say it is not their fault this letter was delayed...I am inclined to believe them. How can I not? they are government officials!
