Mythology and history are replete with stories of deep friendships that cross unbelievable boundaries. Perhaps the most famous example would be the tale of the Sword of Damocles but there are many, many others. This is not one of them.

How could it have gotten out of hand? Let's recap; phone call ends badly, pickup ride ends with profanity laced shouting match followed by window breaking via golf club, stabbing with knife, shooting with crossbow, stabbing with knife, pounding with baseball bat, stabbing with knife, and hacking with a battle axe. It is a good thing they are friends...who knows what would have happened if they didn't like each other!!!!!!!!
This is the type of thing where you would like to say "Only in Alabama" but admit it...you had to make sure it wasn't Arkansas or Tennesee....
