We know what's in a name...but what's in the leg?

I cannot imagine the difficulties presented by going through life with an artificial limb. Being a bit paranoid, I would be nervous about it falling off at inconvenient times...sure, I made light of the guy who lost his artificial leg when he was trying to escape with an ATM in his pick-up...but that is just because I am a jerk. And also because I did not see the potential benefits.

What? Benefits? To having an artificial leg and being a criminal? What benefits could it possibly have?

Well...you have heard the old joke about someone who can consume lots of food and they say he has "a hollow stomach"? Well...how about someone who is in jail, wants an illegal substance, and has friends on the outside? Couldn't he pretend to break his artificial leg, have them pick it up to repair it, and get it back with illegal substances in it? Is there a better way to smuggle stuff into prison? I suspect there is since the guys who tried this method got caught...
