Open space

Open memo to drivers on 217. This is in reference to something I see every single morning. It is like a sickeness, a disease, a troubling symptom of a deep rooted psychological problem...or a complete lack of intelligence.

You come onto the highway from one of those stupid, congestion causing on-ramp stoplights. You accelerate to 35 mph ignoring the fact both lanes are, until that moment, engaged in travel between 50 and 60 mph. Then, despite the fact you are not even keeping up with traffic in the slow lane, you instantly move over into the fast lane.

You are a 1 car traffic jamb. You are rude, a terrible driver, and an idiot. If you cannot keep up with movement in the slow lane, why on earth would you even have it cross your mind there is a fast lane to be in? You singlehandedly manage to add 5 - 10 minutes to the commute of every single person who comes along behind you.

Is it ego? Do you somehow think it makes you more of a woman or man to be in the fast lane? Or is it a deep-seated hatred of everyone else? Do you just think, "I am going to make sure none of these people get to work before I do"? Or are you just that stupid?

It seems my goal every morning is no higher than this; to get through that merge section before you can get into my lane. After watching your idiocy I must admit I have a better understanding of road rage and random road shootings. If you are the next victim you have my personal guarantee I will not feel sorry for you or the family you left behind.

Maintain traffic flow! If you can't handle that...take surface streets.

That is all.
