Are you easy to amuse?

I am pretty easy. I just have to read about a couple guys on a boat and see the line "Not having anywhere to keep a deer aboard, Mr Allsopp sat on it as they headed back to port."

What, is it unusual in that neck of the woods to have no place on your boat to keep a deer? Was that space occupied by a hippopotamus? I am confused here...
