Graffiti is at its root one of the more visually offensive crime. A certain segment of the population tries to justify it under the guise of "art" or by playing it off as anti-establishment action but really it is nothing but pointless destruction that in no way ennobles the author.
U.S. citizens going abroad have a poor history with their decisions to continue their thoughtless vandalism. Remember the idiot getting caned for it in Singapore? The real tragedy there is the morons here who defended him. He did the crime, he should have done the time, so to speak...he should have gotten the full sentence. He got off pretty easy, all things considered.
Fortunately for people like me people like him did not learn the lesson that the laws of the land have teeth and sometimes our folks are not worthy to pay the price.
Oliver Jufer, who "surprisingly" was drunk at the time of the offense, thought spray-painting some graffiti on the Thai king was a good idea. One 10 year jail sentence later for his heinous crime...maybe not so much.
Here is hoping there is no taking it easy on him this time. Well, maybe a little leniency...maybe a year will give him time to get sober.
