Opera is considered high art, inaccessible to the plebian mind. I am proud, in this case, to have sub-standard mind. Bad singing in a dead language, incomprehensible plots that stretch a 10 minute story into 2 hours, outlandish costumes...what is not to love?
But can you imagine someone with season tickets finding out that he could have heard it for free if he just would have changed his career choice and become a bum?

How insulting, though, that the spokesperson thinks this will drive them away because, well, they're poor, so they can't possibly have taste.
On that note, I must have no taste, because I hate opera. I wouldn't listen if you paid me.
