It is no secret that I have somewhat of a compulsive personality. I can read intently for several hours when involved in a book, I can write for many hours when the mood strikes, I consume...at least, used to...great quantities of food for the sole reason that they taste good. Even when I was full I would pound another bite, and another, and another..
When i am doing something I enjoy, it is hard to stop me. Several times growing up I played basketball for several hours after spraining my ankle. Sure it hurt...but I wanted to play.
Back when I had a pool table I would stay up for hours playing alone. I would alternate stripes and solids, rewracking and playing game after game after game after game against myself. I have been known to golf 18 holes of hilly, tough course on an empty stomach. That is how I am.
All that stopped as I grew fatter and fatter. When I hit 265 it was terrible. A 30 second run had me gasping. Then I went to Mexico for those beautiful 2+ weeks, lost 45 pounds, became active...oh, what a difference.
Joining the How Ya Doin' softball team was great for me in so many ways. It gave me a structured activity, got me around people who rekindled my athletic streak, got me enjoying sports again, gave me confidence in my foot again...so good, so wonderful. Thanks to all of them.
Well, it rekindled my desire for other sports, too. Like basketball. So with guys from work and HYD I started playing in a league again. And it is a great deal of fun. Loving it. In fact, we have discussed (the guys from HYD and a couple girls) playing co-ed next season.
Let's do the math here: basketball 2 nights a week, softball 1 or 2 nights a week, running...my time is getting pretty full. And all this with good friends like Fullur, Jr. Woodchuckette, Alan, wanting to hang out. Oh, and...a new fiance whom I am more deeply hooked on every time we hang out.
Who probably wants to spend more time with me. Now, any reasonable person would say "when". Enough is enough, pick a sport and a night, call it good. Not the Goose.
Far from it. She actively encouraged me to go ahead with both basketball teams...and is so intent on encouraging my softball habit that she went out and bought a glove and bat and we start practicing a bit together tomorrow night. This is after attending several of my games and not only not complaining about the time I spend on this stuff but encouraging it...and my card playing.
I cannot express how lucky I am to have found someone who not just tolerates my passions but fully supports and even participates in them. It would be easy, even justified for her to complain about the time I spend on them...and she never has. I owe her such a debt of gratitude. I never realized what it could be like to be in a mature, healthy, truly loving relationship. Yeah, I question a lot of things I have done, but asking her to marry me is certainly not one of them. Much love, baby doll. See you at the ballpark.

Awwwwwwwwwwww! You guys are *so* cute!
She's just lulling you into a false sense of security while she grooms you to be the crux of her plan for world domination... or not... Sounds great. I'm really happy for you man.
I am so glad you finally figured out she was the "one". Good luck and God bless!
Well if we're being honest, wasn't it me who got the ball rolling? Wasn't is me who admitted to thinking about asking you to marry me that fateful Sunday? Yes, I think it was. But I guess technically you were the one who did the official asking. :) I don't want to sound all mushy and gross your blog readers out, but I'm the lucky one. :) And of course I will encourage your activities. I mean, I would never want to take something away from you that makes you happy. Ya know?
