Federal Prison, Sex or Death?

I always feel better when I can start a post off with an Eddie Izzard reference. Dude (dudette?) is hilarious. Be that as it may, I am not sure whether to laugh or cry about this story. Let me summarize: corrupt guards trade smuggled items for sex and silence. Feds find out. Feds investigate. Feds come to arrest guard at the prison. Gunfire ensues. 1 guard, 1 investigator die.
Now, let's analyze this a little bit. The guard, if actually guilty (remember, you can't SAY he is lest you be sued for slander), traded money and influence for sex. So already he is a winner. Couldn't get it from anybody better than a prisoner? What, your town has no hookers? Cheaper, safer, less likely to get caught...you so ugly nobody will date you? I am confused here. Anyway, he has no option if he wants sex other than smuggling, bribing, and abusing his authority. Okay, I guess I kind of get that.
One of 6 dudes involved in this ring (allegedly) sees them coming for him, looks at his options. Let's see, he can go to jail, probably get out on bail pretty quickly, get a good lawyer, and either get off or probably get a minimal sentence. Or...he can shoot it out and die.
Smuggling, sex, death...hope it was worth it.
