The joys of possum patrols

When my family was gathered together we (with the exception of Dad) went, as a family, to Ice Age II, a cute and humorous movie that saw two memorable actions made by one of the possums. For the remainder of the stay, Gabe and myself both "threw signs" emulating the possum activities. I suppose you could say (wait for it) we were...playing possum.
groan.
Anyway, it brought up an interesting point. Often there are lines, gestures, modes of dress, attitudes, etc. that are adopted from movies. I have often heard Napolean Dynamite referenced as a film that is stupid to watch, not funny, but very quotable. I myself regularly adopt quotes from movies as diverse as UHF, Joe Dirt, Support Your Local Sheriff, Bad Boys, Blazing Saddles, and Patton. Many of them are movies I do not necessarily recommend...you might not be amused.
At the same time, I also quote the Simpsons regularly (which I DO recommend) and occasionally even South Park (which I do NOT recommend). Words such as "marklar" and "the Chewbacca Defense" have, at least occasionally, entered my, and I would suspect, many other people's vocabulary...even some of us who passively or actively dislike the show.
My brothers are huge fans of S-Park. I find it over the top crude and offensive to the point where the joke IS the offensiveness, not what is said. Nor do I think M & T would be offended by that assesment...they might feel complimented. They are sort of like an intelligent Howard Stern (is that possible? I might have to reanalyze that statement...too much of an oxymoron) in their attempts to make offensiveness their schtick, their tool, their draw, their hook.
But it does not prevent them being quotable. Some rather bad movies have had some rather good lines on occasion. And ultimately, maybe that is why some of the worst movies are some of the best. Long after the cutting edge special effects of today are being done by acned 12 year olds on hyper-advanced home computers, people will be quoting great lines that enter the culture. And that alone might be worth the price of admission.
Marklar.

I hate South Park! Nik gave us a "hip hop Cartman" toy for Christmas...and we apologetically gave it back.
