COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world and only one parent had to work to support the family.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Someone sent me this on e-mail and I thought it was pretty funny. It is also another fine example of presentation. Remember, a hundred years ago there was no 40 hour work week, working conditions were appalling, there were street gangs controlling elections, there were no state parks, cars, and a host of other luxuries...so yeah, things were "better" without taxes, but they were also infinitely worse...all about point of view

Another reason it's all a point of view is that the negatives then did not exist everywhere. The negatives now (all the ridiculous taxes) do.

Incidentally, I think about 2 of those taxes the government (Federal at least) has the legal ability to impose. And I don't think I counted a single one that they have any business being involved in at all. Maybe phones, as that is going to legitamitely involve inter-state commerce.
