Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent John Mehr said authorities know the motive for the killing but he would not disclose it. He said police did not believe it was infidelity, but he would not comment on whether Mary Winkler had accused her husband of abuse. Court papers offered no hint of a motive.
What do you read into that? Personally, I see a coloring that is horrible...the guy has essentially just been convicted by the media of abuse, arguing from a lack of information. Why is the sentece, "...but he would not comment" in there? It adds nothing...unless you want to cast aspersions on the dead guy's reputation.
Then again, let's point out one of the fairest representations I have seen of a difficult concept:
Churches of Christ do not consider themselves a denomination since every congregation is independently governed by a group of church elders. They generally believe the Bible should be interpreted literally and that baptism is essential for salvation. The church is also noted for its prohibition on using musical instruments during services.
Sadly, in the south the non-instrumental churches trademarked a name taken directly from Scripture (Romans 16:16 "The churches of Christ salute you"). Many churches that call themselves the Church of Christ do, in fact, use instruments, hearkening back to such passages as Psalm 150 and others. Be that as it may, this was a fascinating paragraph to read.
