Although I poke fun at it in my title, I actually think the Hooked on Phonics program is pretty good. Mostly because I have seen good results. From my own experience, I will say the PACE system was a pretty good scholastic system, CLASS was pretty good, and frankly...when I went to public schools, I regressed.
As you probably know by now, I strongly object to parents being forced to have their children taught things they believe are false, yet that is what the public schools do every day.
Now, a lot of people who read that instantly thought I was about to go on one of my religious tangents again. Well...maybe, but actually, I was talking about someone in one of my classes who within the last 5 years had a High School text book saying that one day man would land on the moon. Why would you attend that school?
Oh, right...you have to. Here is a pretty good (in my humble yet accurate opinion) article about that:

My brother, at age 14, called Hooked on Phonics and asked if kids can't read, how they could read the phone number (800 I CAN READ)? The operator said, "Young man, you must have better things to do with your time!"
It's just like with all taxes. There is some kind of mental block with politicians that when government increases, performance decreases. The teachers' reasons for opposing vouchers are obvious: If we get vouchers, they actually have to work in order to get there $37,000+ for working what rounds out to about 8 months a year when you factor in all of there during the school year breaks.
