recap of last night's game

This will hold even less interest than normal for most of you...skip this one. I just feel like rehashing last night.
We started in the field. One thing I did not realize is we rotate positions almost every inning...that was a new experience. Also, the league is a "1-1" league...in other words, you have a count of 1 ball and 1 strike when you come to the plate.
For the first inning I was at third. I quickly realized I do not have the arm strength I once had. The third to first throw is actually a little beyond my capabilities at this time. Still, it was okay as I never had a ball hit to me. It was actually an incredibly difficult inning. I am used to having an impact in whatever I do, to not just being involved in the action but actually guiding it. We gave up 5 or 6 runs that inning...and all I could do was back up throws, shout encouragement...I never got to make a single play.
In the bottom half of the inning, I noted I was hitting 2nd. Betsy hit a typical screamer that put her on base and I doubled her home, then scored quite easily on a rocket by Emy. So that felt good. We threw about a 4-spot on the board to make it a game.
The next couple innings I was in the outfield. Again, it sucked...no part of the action. Finally, in the 2nd or 3rd inning I was out there someone hit a fly which I handled fairly easily, although the yellow ball was right in the lights which caused me some depth perception issues. My second turn at bat I singled, but that is where I died as the other three batters flew out.
Then it was to shortstop for a couple innings. I was pretty excited, figuring I would finally get to make a difference in the game. Sadly, I had just 2 opportunities, one a soft fly I caught, the other taking a throw from Laura to make the third out at second. So defensively, it was a good night i suppose, played error-free and handled all three chances, although they were all fairly easy.
In the bottom of the 6th we needed 5 or 6 to tie and I was 2nd up. For some inexplicable reason I deserted my usual game plan. Typically I take a look at where the fielders are positioned and simply lob the ball into a gap. It means a lot of singles and doubles and no outs. This time I randomly decided to drive the ball. And drive it I did...to about 10' short of the fence where the fielder made the easy catch. Stupid of me. Oh, well, 2 for 3 on the night, decent fielding...but we lost, and I really felt like I was just "there", anyone could have done what I did...bummer. Next game will be better.
