T-ball. Kids who can't hit, throw, catch, or run playing baseball for the fun of it. This is about as unimportant as results can get in sports. Well, soccer and the WNBA aside...this is as unimportant as sports get. Okay, that was a cheap shot, leaving out horse and dog racing, the Yachting "event", and Olympic Ball Room Dancing...dancing is a sport? At least give me Jennifer "I'm too hot for Vince Vaughn" Anniston bumping and grinding salsa style in Along Came Polly... that might be a sport.
Anyway, T-ball is all about participation. Why they keep score I don't know. It really is inconsequential. Rules always require that every person on the team play at least a specified amount of time. When I played it was 2 innings (out of 6). In Pennsylvania it is 3.
Now imagine a coach was so "competitive" that he wanted to keep a player who was mentally disabled from playing. Why, coach? In 10 years...smurf, in 10 MINUTES, will the result of the game matter? Allegedly, yes, it did...$25 bucks he allegedly offered one player to plunk the mentally disabled kid so he couldn't play.
On the bright side, this monster was caught...allegedly...and there will be a trial. That is good. Here is where I think the mentally disabled kid is not the "retard":
"If Downs is convicted of any crime, he won't be allowed to be a coach next year, Forsythe said" (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3764132)
He can't coach for ONE YEAR? Give him the smurfing Michael Jackson treatment. This pathetic excuse for a human being should be nowhere within a hundred miles of a kid. If you are so out of control in your competitiveness that you care about the outcome of a smurfing t-ball game then you have no business coaching, guiding, instructing, or caring for kids. You should be on a Georgia chaing gang in the sweltering heat, sweating off that despicable layer of skin that covers a heart as black as any person walking around free.
And an apology isn't good enough to get you back in that position, either. Coaching t-ball should be about giving kids the fundamentals, sure...but it should also be about learning to play the game the right way. That includes sportsmanship, integrity, and teamwork...not learning to bean your teammate who is less talented.
I hope they keep this chowderhead away from the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and any other children's groups. I think I finally found a worthy victim for those jerks that punch out umpires at babe ruth games or kill other dads over junior hockey. If I had his address, I would put it here.
To me, it is irrelevant whether the victim was mentally disabled or had all his faculties. Teaching bean balls in a smurfing T-ball game...I am so miffed I cannot even finish this.
