My ex-wife and I went to Episode II together. I remember walking out of the theatre laughing...(I know, but it is true, sometimes I laughed around her) I said something along the lines of, "Okay, now I have seen a muppet with a lightsaber. That is cool enough I can die happy."
Well, tonight I saw the muppet-come-light saber wielding maniac again. And I have to say...third time is the charm.
I never jumped on the disappointment bandwagon. I thought Episodes 1 & II were pretty much right in line with 4 - 6...cheesy dialogue, horrible acting, and basic popcorn movies where heroes get into trouble, get out of trouble through some fantastic, unbelievable yet oddly workable circumstances...only to get into worse trouble. Seems to me the whole series held true to form.
First impressions after seeing III;
Well, the Tatooine scenes always echo each other. Good guys arrive via animal, bad guys via technology. If the good guys have technology, it is outdated, decrepit, and has no speed capability.
There is a lot of stuff that echoes the final duel between Luke and Vader. Repeated scenes with that conical, gridded window...sometimes in space ships, sometimes in duels, sometimes in chambers...
Natalie Portman's hair is a complete foreshadowing of Leis. That is not necessarily a good thing.
There were a couple other things, but these really stood out.
Oh, and one more thing...late night movies in the middle of the week are a terrible thing. They lead to drivel like this. Let's face it...this is nothing but a bookmark to freshen my impressions. Even I don't want to read this one.
