Does it really matter when NOBODY is right?

When the founding fathers of our nation were putting together the government they went to great lengths to ensure equitable representation for everyone. Please note that equitable does not inherently mean equal...but the idea of fairness is part and parcel of the package. The power was divided into three to provide "checks and balances"...one reason, by the way, I strenuously object to the President presenting a budget and initiating legislation. It is not just that it is not his job...it is because it is a fundamental upsetting of the balanced system so carefully developed. The President is to EXECUTE the laws, not make them...hence being part of the Executive branch, not the Legislative.

Remember those diagrams showing how the Legislative branch creates the laws, Judicial branch judges the laws, and the Executive branch enforces them? That is how it should be.

Part of the institution was separating the legislature into 2 parts. The House has proportionate representation...i.e. if State A has a population twice as high as State B then State A should have 2 representatives for each one State B places in there. However, this could give heavily populated states a disproportionate amount of power. Since that was undesirable, the Senate gives each state 2 Representatives regardless of population. In theory, this way nobody can enforce their will on the other simply by having a simple majority.

Too bad the House never figured this out. You seriously should read this article about how they fight during their sessions.

The sad thing is...this is a major, major piece of legislation. It will impact not just the U.S. but actually the entire World...yes, more heavily North America, particularly our neighbors to the South and off the Florida coast...but it also effects people from all over the world.

And it is going to be a close vote. One or 2 votes could determine the outcome.

The Dems are clearly in the wrong here over procedure, that is not even a debate...but think about the ramifications of what the Repubs are fighting for. Altering the fundamental nature of how we deal with immigrants based on how any given individual feels at 9:55 as opposed to how s/he feels at 9:56 or 10:02...that is scary, scary stuff.

If the idea of our country is to prevent slim majorities from enforcing unfair legislation on the rest of the population...it certainly seems here that it is failing us all.
