My sometimes (read "always") cynical take on police forces is not hard to spot; dishonest, oppressive, interested not at all in right or justice...pretty much the bottom feeders of civilization.
But what qualifications would be needed for a truly worthwhile policeman?
- Honesty: obviously this is high on the list. He must be believable.
- Integrity: There are times the spirit of the law is more meaningful than the letter. Knowing how to act in those cases. Never planting evidence. Stuff like that.
- Knowledge: of weapons, codes, how people behave.
- A pleasant aroma: Okay, so you think I am making that up. I wish I were... but no, now the Indian police force has discovered the secret to an effective police force that will still nonetheless be loved and admired by all their protectees. Just make them smell good.
