For decades psychiatrists have demonstrated their ignorance, their nature of being, as Jerry Clower might phrase it, "educated beyond their intelligence" by declaring how one of the worst crises facing the youth is low self-esteem. Entire shool systems have shifted grading patterns to ensure students do not have their self-esteem lowered.
Meanwhile, people without PHDs but with common sense have been pointing out that many of these kids have the exact opposite...not a lack of self-esteem but an elevated sense of their value, they have far more self-esteem than is warranted. Gone are the humble people...and I can't believe I am about to quote this guy, but here it comes...gone are the people saying, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" and in its place we have "Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what Monica can do for you" and "I signed the law but it doesn't apply to me". And it is not just in leadership, it is on every level.
And now comes the shocking...shocking, I say...shocking and surprising news that kids might be thinking too highly of themselves.
No, really? You think?
They have been told since in the womb they are the most important thing on earth...that nothing else matters but them. Their behavior does not matter. Applying themselves or choosing not to does not matter. All that matters is they are important and the world better notice!
And they "internalized" it, they know they are important and heaven help you if you criticize them in any way, deny them the smallest want, or in any other way interfere with their self-actualization of worth.
Well done psychiatry, you have done it again. I think the Bible said it best; professing themselves wise, they became fools.
