Irrelevancy, thy name is the UN (replacing soccer and Guinness Book of World Records)

While there are certainly many irellevant things in life that think they are relevant...for example, Orenthal keeps entering the public consciousness with idiocy like his "Juiced" reality series and his recent "fictional" story "If I Did It" but in truth...whatever, OJ, go back to looking for the "real killers" on the links because your moment is past. Soccer made a splash by signing some yutz from across the pond, I think his name is Mr. Posh Spice or something like that. I would look it up if I cared. On the bright side, stateside soccer enthusiasts are no doubt giddy with joy as season ticket sales more than tripled from 2 people to 7 for the Galaxians or Galagas or whatever the smurf the franchise is called. I am sure it is easily accessible via a search and as soon as it becomes relevant I will take care of you, but meanwhile...on to the point.

The U.N. passed a resolution saying denying the Holocaust is a bad thing. Good for you, U.N., such a forceful gesture will no doubt change the parameters of the dialogue from where they are to where they are as pretty much anyone who accepts it says "See? This powerless, bloated international hall of arguments agrees with me" and people who deny it move from a position of saying "this overblown event did not happen" to a position of saying "this overblown did not happen".

But "Ah", you say, "But now they are shamed by their stance. The U.N. said so."

Of course, the U.N. ALSO said Iraq had to allow their weapons inspectors had to have free access to the nation...which did not happen...that the Somalians should stop killing each other...we have all seen how effective that has been....that Korea needs to stop its nuclear development...a demand that has worked well....if you have ever seen Hotel Rwanda then you have seen a pretty good example of the teeth UN Resolutions and demands have. They would struggle to gum jello. It might prove to tough for them.

Fortunately the ridiculous and irrelevant UN gave a chance for other idiots to get off their own blasts of intrinsic stupidity:

Egypt, meanwhile, urged people worldwide to combat "the rising tide of Islamophobia in many parts of the world" as they remember the victims of the Holocaust.
Indonesia echoed that appeal, recalling the uproar in many Muslim countries over the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad published in European nations last year. Indonesia suggested that the same moral standards that inspire abhorrence of Holocaust denial should apply to the publication of such cartoons.

Let's make a little comparison here.
The Holocaust: A carefully developed program designed to systematically imprison and kill every member of a race for the crime of being Jewish.

Islam: Religion founded in blood, expanded through warfare and specifically using the phrase "convert or die" during most of its history.

Publication of cartoons: An exercise in free speech which demonstrated it is fine to offend Christians but if you offend Muslims then the "religion of peace" will kill over it.

Yep, pretty much the same thing. Well done, U.N. You have made the world a better place.
Well done, Indonesia, comparing the murder of millions of people to a few pen and ink drawings. Why don't you go kill someone for saying there are more offensive things in the world?

Drew, replace "Islam" with "Christianity" and unfortunately, you have just about the same thing. Both religions have terribly bloody histories.
