I am offended!

For a long time I had a cartoon called "Non-Sequiter" on my monitor in which the little girl approaches her father and shouts, "I am offended!" You can read the referenced strip here. Her pre-emptive strike caught me as both hilarious and apropos in today's political climate. A person cannot say almost anything without someone being offended. When Sheehan opens her mouth one group is offended. When someone says something negative...or even simply not positive or supportive of her...other people are offended. If you are pro-English one group is offended, if you are pro-Spanish others are offended.
Frankly, a lot of this offendedness is pure nonsense. Here is one of the downfalls of having a Constitution that guarantees free speech. Sometimes people are going to say things that are offensive to other people. That is their right. That is my right. We do not all believe the same things. I am not even sure we should. What I am sure of is people are taking the "We should not offend anyone" platform too far.
While I do not agree with all of Mark Evanier's politics, I really appreciate his willingness to stand up for what he believes and speak openly and honestly about his own viewpoint, such as he does here about who is offended, when, how and why. Let's all hope this article doesn't offend you...
