In Proverbs it states, A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." In the 2500+ years since that was written it has proven true over and over again. And this is particularly true whenever cultures clash. Where people seek, usually violently, to retain their own culture and eradicate the culture of the peoples who have developed their culture around a region, conflict always results.
Israel and Palestine are no different. After the Jews were violently evicted from their homes in the 2nd century following years of rebellion against the Romans they were homeless for years. The Moslems seized those lands in violence and bloodshed and grew used to living there.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s the Jews began returning. Much to the amazement of many people, there was peace and harmony between Arabs and Jews for decades until the events surrounding World War I, the White Papers, the correspondance, and the rising tide of nationalism that led to hatred and fear.
Since then there has seldom been peace. And after the titanic move of Sharon to move towards peace we find the area falling back into the regular cycle...when one side wants peace, some other side can only retain their power through violence.
So we get a suicide bombing. retaliation comes immediately and continues...note today Israel killed 4 people in a retaliatory attack, and naturally, the response is more rockets being lobbed in with more threats of further attacks.
When will it stop?
It won't. Too many different groups have too many different aims, and since none are willing to subsume their culture they will continue to answer anger with anger, violence with violence, hatred with hatred, death with death.
Honor diversity...hah! I spit in the face of that stupid concept. No, honor UNITY. That is what will stop this.
