Sometimes writing is very easy. Things just flow naturally. Thoughts build upon one another, a briefly outlined concept smoothly transitions into a nice piece of writing that might do anything from express anger at the sometimes harsh way life goes to a comedic piece to a biting commentary on society or some facet thereof to a casual, off0the-cuff investigation of some historical point that interested me.
Other times it is much more difficult. Ideas about what or why to write are half formed or not formed at all. Words stick in my mind, refuse to flow together. Maybe there is a concept, vaguely defined, that when I am writing well would become a well reasoned, well received piece. But on nights where the words don't come the concept remains vague and incomprehensible.
Those are the times I hesitate to write. But they are the precise times I should write. Forcing myself to utilize my brain will exercise it and strengthen it. And ultimately, it will help me improve the weakness I sometimes have in finding ways to communicate.
So here is the lesson for those of you still forming your outlook on life; learn how to communicate so you can be clearly understood. It is one of the most valuable skills you can develop.
