Tragedy in the Middle East part 2

As the power of parts of the Arab world grew the existence of Israel became ever more a thorn in the side of their pride. Some of the anger was justified...the displaced Palestinians were a people without a country. Yet the reaction was one of hate rather than love.
What I mean is, instead of instantly taking in the Palestinians, they were rejected by every country. Ever read the story "Man Without a Country"? Here was a people without a country. No Arab would take them in, but they did act violently against Israel...a reaction I think was fairly justified.
Here was a new country imposed by outsiders, created in violence and held the same way.
From time to time, men of vision arose within the Arab world and within the Israelite camp that tried to create peace. Have you ever studied the career of Nasser? It can (and has) been argued he was killed because he was creating peace with Israel. That is a pattern that has been repeated again and again and again and again.
Whenever there is a movement that might set a real and lasting peace, someone does something stupid that leads to retaliation, which of course demands retaliation, which leads to an escalated retaliation...
I believe it was Golda Meir who said something along the lines of "We will have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us." With some liberality, I will contend she was saying the increasing hostilities were seeing more and more children (of both sides) killed...and until the parents tired of seeing their kids killed when they attacked Israel, the war could not end.
Whenever Israel would try to initiate peace, some rabid Zionist would do something stupid like blowing up the Dome of the Rock or bombing an Islamic prayer circle. When some prominent Palestinian leader would propose peace, some rabid nationalist would go suicide bombing. Whoever started it, the other side would reataliate. It happened after local efforts, it happened after international efforts like the Camp David Accords and the Oslo conference.
Did you note who was doing the attacks? PEOPLE ON THE SIDE PROPOSING PEACE! When even Arafat proposed peace, it was Arabs who ended that proposal. When even Sharon proposed peace, it was Israelites.
They have practiced war so long they don't know how to stop. And now we have seen one of the most important moments in recent history since the fall of the Berlin Wall. If you do not comprehend the tremendous change in mindset that saw Israel actually remove themselves from Gaza then you need to carefully study the history of that area. This is a monumental moment in history.
And someone is trying to stop it. But this time, it might not be whack-jobs from the side making the concession.

It may still be revealed it was Zionists who pulled the first trigger. It may not. It might have been Hamas that pulled the first trigger. It might not.
It doesn't matter.
Someone has to say enough. Someone has to say retaliation gets you nowhere.
Both sides profess to believe the Old Testament. The Jews believe it is the only book, the Islamists include it as a Holy Book,. Maybe they should read Proverbs which states "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Maybe instead of retaliating, someone will instead suggest a time of peace and mourning for the lost lives.
But I doubt it. No, this has all the earmarks of another round of escalating violence where hundreds of people will lose their lives over principles founded on lies and broken promises by a people who should never have been there in the first place.
And no matter where in the world that happens, that is a tragedy.

You're at school. Another kid about your size comes up to you and shouts, "Gimme your lunch money." You comply. What's going to happen the next time he sees you?
