How you were raised matters

I was holding a sporadic conversation with one of my closest friends when something came up about how far their responsibility went. I stated frankly I believed they had far exceeded what I felt they were responsible for...but also, that I am very grateful for how much past what is needed they do.
I feel very blessed to be surrounded with friends of this nature, but even more so to have that kind of family. I don't agree with everything Mom and Dad did or taught and I don't to this day agree with everything some family members do...but I do know almost every one of them will go the proverbial "extra mile", not just for people they like or people who can do something for them....but also for people they do not like but need help.
As my sister Debbie pointed out, sometimes we help people at great expense to ourselves, physically, emotionally, financially, or a combination of the three, because we were "raised right".
One lesson we did learn was to care about others more than ourselves and to act that way. No matter what happens, I hope that is something we never lose.
And I can honestly say the 3 siblings I am closest to, that is one thing I never worry about. Love you guys.
