Things I am proud of

School always came easy to me. So easy that in 7th grade, as part of the "advanced" math class, I routinely did my homework in class while the teacher was explaining it to the other students.

Writing papers is a breeze for me, a snap that requires little thought, marginal effort, and results in excellent grades.

I think the penultimate example of that would be the time I reviewed a book in which I basically blasted the author for creating a premise, then miserably failing to fulfill it...and having the instructor, who considered that author a mentor, being forced to admit the review was so well written, he still had to give me a tough grade.

It was a proud moment for me when I was inducted into Phi Theta Alpha, the history honor society.

But all that pales in comparison to a recent achievement achieved by someone else.

I know full well scholastic endeavors are not easy for everyone. For some people, school is a chore, it is hard work, and achieving high grades requires sacrifice, sweat, and tears, constant and intense effort.

And when someone to whom school does not come easily or naturally does well, that to me is far more impressive and worthy of adulation than my own accomplishments.

Which I bring up because the Goose, engaging in the fast-track nursing program at exclusive Belmont University was just inducted into the Nursing Honor Society.

That is a far more difficult and impressive feat, and I am extremely proud of her.
